WHAT IS GATE EXAM?


The GATE exam (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a test administered at the national level in India to assess undergraduate students’ knowledge of several engineering and science courses. For engineering graduates seeking acceptances and/or financial assistance to Postgraduate Programs such as Master’s and Doctoral and other Government Scholarships / Internship opportunities those are subject to the admission criteria’s of the institutes, passing the GATE exam is a requirement.





Some public sector undertakings (PSUs) use GATE exam results for recruitment, and many other universities in India and overseas use GATE exam results for admissions. A candidate’s GATE score reflects his or her relative level of performance. The score is used for admission to various post-graduate education programs in Indian higher education institutes (e.g. Master of Engineering, Master of Technology, Master of Architecture, and Doctor of Philosophy).



Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have completed or be in the final year or pre-final year of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Technology (B.E./B.Tech) or a Master’s Degree in Science (M.Sc) in any relevant science topic.
  • Candidates who obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree in a country other than India include: Students must be in their third or higher year of study or have completed a Bachelor’s degree (at least three years) in Engineering, Technology, Science, Arts, or Commerce.
  • There is no requirement for a minimum passing grade in the qualifying degree.
  • Candidates must be Indian citizens. Candidates from other nations, on the other hand, can apply for GATE if they match the eligibility requirements.
  • There is no age limit for giving the test.


GATE Exam Pattern


Time Duration: 3 hours

Total Number of Questions: 65

Total Marks: 100

Type of Questions: Multiple Type Questions (MCQs), Numerical Answer Type Questions (NATs) and Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)

Marking Scheme:  There will be 0.33 negative marking for 1 mark MCQs and 0.66 for 2 marks MCQs. There will be no negative markings for MSQs and NATs.
